Show Description:
Plaid Tidings is a show that offers the best of Forever Plaid, tied up in a nifty package with a big Christmas bow on top! Filled with Christmas standards that have all been “Plaid-erized,” our boys are back to do their Christmas Special. At first, Francis, Jinx, Smudge and Sparky aren’t sure why they’ve returned to Earth for another posthumous performance, but a phone call from the heavenly Rosemary Clooney lets them know that they’re needed to put a little harmony into a discordant world. Sprinkled among the Christmas offerings are audience favorites, like their riotous three-minute-and-eleven-second version of The Ed Sullivan Show - this time, featuring the Rockettes, the Chipmunks and The Vienna Boys Choir, as well as a Plaid Caribbean Christmas that puts the “Day-O” in Excelsis!
This truly “heaven-sent” holiday treat will lift audiences’ spirits and fill them with nostalgia for a bygone era of classic music sung in perfect harmony.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
FRANCIS: (2nd Tenor/Lyric Baritone)
The most confident of the PLAIDS, FRANCIS makes sure everyone knows where they are supposed to be and what happens next. He also has asthma which sometimes acts up as he tries to keep the show moving, and often apologizes to the audience when things go wrong. He has a great deal of compassion for the music and the group.
SPARKY: (Baritone)
The class clown, SPARKY is always looking for ways to crack jokes. He wears a retainer, sings with a joyous bravura and loves to perform and, in the end, is shown to have a tender heart.
JINX: (Tenor)
The shy one, JINX is terrified and doesn’t always remember what song is next and the others are very protective of him. He also occasionally gets a nose bleed when he sings above an A.
SMUDGE: (Bass)
A worrier, with a chronic nervous stomach, SMUDGE is a bit reluctant to perform but blossoms in the end - bowling everyone over with his stage presence and musical prowess. A note about the characters: Although there is a great deal of humor in PLAID TIDINGS, the characters are sincere - real people, not caricatures, and when they sing together, they sound MAGNIFICENT.
If you are unable to attend auditions or require support, please contact Artistry by emailing audition@artistrymn.org. Artistry is committed to making theater accessible to all; please let us know if you have any questions.
