Artistry is excited to present Alternative Perceptions in Nature by Cindy Fuerstenberg in our Atrium Gallery. While enjoying Fuerstengerg’s work you will discover complex layers that have a story to tell and a reason to look deeper. The result is a tactile and visual feast of harmony that offers the viewer an alternative perception of the natural world. Fuerstengerg is technique and composition driven, interested in how all the various parts can become a whole expression, a representation of some small aspect of the natural world. Her work may include multitudes of fibers, textures of paper, or hand altered fabric. You may also find paint pushed past its boundaries, clay, reclaimed metal, or a trail of rusty bits. She grew up in a first ring suburb of Minneapolis, where small feet could still find dirt paths in the wild green. She relished the solitude and rich tapestry of color and life she found in the arms of Mother Nature. Fuerstenberg needed to know the “why” and “how” of every living thing she encountered. All of these bits and pieces of life, the stories, the impact of humans, and the history of the land are deep wells of inspiration for her.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Cindy Fuerstenberg is a self-taught artist who is one decade into her formal art practice. Her work is a culmination of all her experiences, observations, and learning she has done throughout her life. She works out of her studio in Pine City, Minnesota, where she resides with her husband and three dogs. Her art has been sold and shown throughout the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota area. In 2021, she completed an 18 month grant based mentorship in the medium of fiber and textiles. Fuerstenberg’s fiber and mixed media practice is grounded in the earth, traces the footprints of humans, and reflects the natural places she has been. She hand makes many of the components and uses natural dyes or processes whenever possible.
